We built the Beaton home in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts as a single-family residential that became the first home in Massachusetts to achieve Passive House certification. “Passive” design strives to provide a space where the indoor temperature is maintained at a comfortable level year-round while keeping the energy use to a minimum. With Passive House certification, homes are heated and cooled using passive solar design and heat recovery systems, eliminating the need for conventional heating systems.
This home was designed and built for the family of Laura and Matt Beaton. As an energy auditor, building a home with an efficient energy management system was essential to Matt Beaton. The floor plan of the home was designed to accommodate both the Beatons present needs as well as their future plans to expand their family.
We chose an open concept for the living room, dining room, and kitchen areas to provide a welcoming, shared space and accommodate the solar energy principles. The careful design, layout, and energy efficiency allowed it to be named as a “green” home. The Beatons were able to use it to promote Matt’s energy and construction companies.
The Beaton residence is a perfect example of LYF’s ability to blend modern and efficient energy concepts with sleek and aesthetic designs.
